More I look the more I am unsure. Our Pricesse de Sagan (which is probably a Professeur Ganiviat) does not have serrated leaves and the open flowers are not the same.

'Souvenir de Thérèse Levet'??? Said to be a smaller Tea by Misty Downs but the tea book says it can be tall. The description of it in the Tea book fits yours pretty well actually. I've been toying with buying this one but I don't think it would do well down here (it snowed here today). Later in the year do you think I could get you to post some pollen down to me though? I'd like to experiment with it in breeding Smile

I have a young Souv de Therese Levet, but only one photo (the colour is hard to catch). (Can send pollen later Smon - remind me.) It's much darker if grown in semi-shade. My pic doesn't look as double as your rose, and the centre is more open, and the receptacle not as squat.
I asked some friends to look at your pics, and the feeling was that it might be an early HT, with those rounded leaves and prominent serrations. Always hard to tell from a distance.

Margaret, I am hopeless at identifying roses of all types but nearly posted many times mentioning it's a HT. There are so many reds to pick from though the long sepels could be the best guide to identify.

Would suggest looking at the red HT climbers come pillar roses etc.

There are a few old reds in the H.T's that are still around as climbers but not often seen as "bush" roses any more.
Josephine Bruce , Hadley [beautifully scented and Ena Harkness for starters .

Capturing the true colour of the flower is a real problem it seems . Looking at the pix even on HMF shows a huge colour variation in reds ; the camera I am using now can't do it . Mr Lincoln and the good Papa tend to turn out like Peter Frankenfeld clones , yet my old camera caught the true deep red with great accuracy.

cheers. Rosalie

I can't ID roses either; my visual memory knows what the name of a rose should look like, but not the rose itself.
There's a feeling (not shared by the Bishop's Lodge ladies) that "Bishop's Lodge Muriel Linton" is Hadley. Excellent rose whatever it is.
