Chook killer!

Had a visit last night from a little chook killer! He went from cage to cage killing and attacking birds as he went. I lost two silkie bantams (a hen and her chick), and it attacked and injured seriously a huge rhode island red hen and my two silkie roosters. I think the RIR hen will need to be put down because it's injuries are so severe... but the two silkie roosters will be fine. It also attacked my huge muscovy drake. I caught the little fella in a feral cat trap and am amazed that something so small could cause such damage. It's a baby Spotted-tail Quoll (Dasyurus maculatus)... the adults reach over a metre in length and can weigh up to 4kg... this one is barely bigger than my ferret. I want ot be mad at it but can't... I just think it's kinda cool that I have them around here

Sorry, Simon I protect what is mine, and if they interfere I relocate them as you said earlier, mine is not as humane as yours. If he knows there is food there he will return. The other option is strengthen your chook cages, again OMO.

He'll be a force to be reckoned with as an adult. Are you going to relocate him a long way away Simon ?

I have never heard of these before, sounds as bad or worse than a fox.

People say Quolls dont kill for sport and that it must be feral cats but youve proved them wrong Simon. One of those guys wiped out my pops whole flock of Barnies a few years ago. But remember they are a protected species and are listed as vulnerable (lol altho he doesn't look too vulnerable in the pic hehe) DPIW has some good advise about quoll proofing your shed. Only if I had to, with snakes, 2 pieces either side of the fence, so we could do the same with them.

And when you've finished with the snakes, we got a few cane toads that need fixin' up !!

Roseman...nothing gets on with the toads. The toads are highly poisonous and anything that eats them gets very sick or dies. I had the misfortune to have the poison squirted into my eyes some years ago and luckily there was a tap close by. It just felt like boiling water in my eyes.
