Climber/Rambler to 4m?
I need a new rose (!) to go up our verandah pergola. The height is about 3m so I think I need 3m+ to get the top spread on the pergola.
Am looking at single/semi-double blooms, good stamens, preferably with good fragrance, and very few thorns....
My "list of potentials" includes:
Pinkie (will it go *high* enough though??)
Blush rambler
Veilchenblau
Zepherine Drouhin
Any comments or suggestions?

Wendy, these are our fastest growing climbers, Sombriel ( I don't if I spelt it right) it is a white and although I don't like whites , this is lovely, Golden Showers and Crown Princess Margareta. These all have thorns though. My Zephrine Drouhin that I love is taking ages to grow. Although you climate is pretty much the same as ours your soil could be different.
We have quite a few climbers, I will check later for you to check for thorns.

Kathleen Harrop is doing quite well for me, but she's only been in the ground a few months, so i cant comment on height. I expect Zephrine would similar. Great fragrance!

Renae is a good climber with no thorns, and is moderately fragrant to me.
Also there's a pretty Alister Clark rose called Daydream that might suit, but I don't know about the thorn situation.
