Looking for Diamond Jubilee
Hi Rosebuds, some friends in Adelaide are organizing their parents' 6oth Wedding Anniversary. They bought a potted "Diamond Jubilee" for them. It arrived and it is a poor specimen. Does anyone know of a vendor who might be prepared to pack up a potted rose of DJ and dispatch it to Adelaide.. thanks!

Hariet, you are good at the computer thing, get your friends in Adelaide to contact Thomas' Roses, that is off the top of the head or "Google" nurseries in SA then go from there

Re: Looking for Diamond Jubilee
I had 10 Silver Jubilee and 10 Diamond Jubilee in 10" pots two years old. Due to the high price of water I dumped them all. Still have a bush of each in the ground. Some people still consider DJ their favourite rose.

Re: Looking for Diamond Jubilee
I have grown Diamond Jubilee since I first started growing roses some 25 yrs ago and it is still one of my favourite roses. Bred by highly acclaimed American rose breeder Gene Boerner in the late forties it has stood the test of time and it's blooms can still compete with the likes of Moonstone, Kardinal, Tineke etc. in the exhibition class on the show bench. Starting off as an ugly bud as it opens it turns into a magnificent bloom that could be likened to the ugly duckling and beautiful swan scenario. Most roses degenerate down through their generations (e.g.Peace) however this hasn't occurred with Diamond Jubilee and a bare rooted Diamond Jubilee you buy this year is just as good as one you would have purchased in the fifties. Other outstanding roses bred by Boerner include Apricot Nectar, Bridal Pink, First Prize and John F Kennedy to name a few.

Re: Looking for Diamond Jubilee
Danny as you and Jordan are in Vic why not try and meet up one day and talk roses if you are close enough.
On the subject Diamond Jubilee, if you have not pruned it yet Jordan, could you try sticking some cuttings, see how you go, then you could give one to Danny.

Re: Looking for Diamond Jubilee
Sorry, have just looked and all the ones dumped to fend for themselves have died. It's a good bet DJ will do well on it's own roots but would suggest also buying a mature grafted bareroot from some of the propagators/nurseries.
If that fails get Jordan to send a couple of buds on a 3" stick for some of the experts here to graft for you.
