Re: Cuttings From Last Year
Not sure of your cuttings Dan, but how clever are you to have last years cuttings flowering already. I only wish I had the room to do all the extra things like cuttings etc. I need more space. Don't forget to label....

well to be honest David the cuttings you see in these pics I just stuck em in with another rose in the pot , just water on regular basis , no hormone powder I guess whatever this rose is, assuming (heidesommer ) is easy to strike

LOLOL!! My friend's mother has stuck some beautiful rose cuttings, ( ???name) and they are just to die for! She just dips them in honey and pokes them into the ground!! The bushes at the moment are full of buds and flowers!

Re: Cuttings From Last Year
Hi Guys, I have been told 'Not to Take Cuttings of Rugosa Roses' as they will sucker terribly. My question is what other Roses if grown on own root stock are prone to suckering.
Thanks Heaps....

Re: Cuttings From Last Year
Hi Dianne, the one's which sucker are most likely older(species and similar) types not so much "modern" one's, Rugosa's do sucker, I have an 'Alba' which only sucker lightly, but I do not mind as it takes over from any die-back.
If you like I can contact a lady, which knows more than I do about which varieties have that tendency if you like.

Re: Cuttings From Last Year
Thanks so Much David, I would like to know which ones would be the most vulnerable as I only have a smallish garden and want to fit in as much as I can. Is there a year 'from' of release that would help me determine which ones or will they be Hybrid Rugosa??
Have a Happy Gardening Day, I am itching to get out there but I have a husband keeping a strict rein on me.. Beautiful rain last night...

Re: Cuttings From Last Year
rosebud, I am getting a method(burrito method), I just forgot where I placed it in my computer, which if used right is nearly foolproof to strike cutting.

Re: Cuttings From Last Year
Thank you, thank you. That would be perfect. A failproof (almost) method would be much appreciated.

Re: Cuttings From Last Year
Just posted a reply but not sure where it went. I'll repeat it here. The blog is very informative and clear, roseman. I now know why I lost all of my cuttings this year - hadn't factored in the humidity - I thought I hadn't over-watered so was puzzled as to why the cuttings rotted. One question, though, the blogger doesn't state what time of year is the best to take cuttings in a humid climate. I will definitely try the 'burrito' method. Thanks again, roseman.

Re: Cuttings From Last Year
rosebud, here is part of Kim's email, don't forget he is in California, adjusting things come into play here,
Hi David, the link to my blog where the method starts is below. If you read all the entries first, from this point to the end, you'll know all there is needed to know to massage it to fit your needs/climate/condition. Here, I find it works best with dormant material over winter into spring. I don't know what to expect there at this time of the year. I did have a lady from northern California email me last month to say it worked for here there, now, with florist rose stems. Why? I dunno. I wrapped some two weeks ago for "show and tell" at a rose society meeting last Sunday and they callused.
