Did my first cross yesterday, 'Laurent Carle' X 'Lorraine Lee' (Bush)

Don't know anything about fertility etc but these were the first two blooms.
Both 'Lorrane Lee' bush and climber are bloom machines at this time of the year. Their fragrance is wonderful

Howdy Bruce;
Lorraine Lee can be a funny one to work with. One year I pollinated it with some diploid pollen which formed a huge hip, when I harvested it and cut it open all that was inside was fibre. I tend to use Lorraine Lee as a pollinator these days which gives good results.

Warren, thanks for the information, I did use it as a pollen parent so still looks good. Actually when I collected the pollen I thought , how come I am using a rose called by a female name as a pollen parent, I know, just a name?

The idea I had sometime ago was to use Alister Clarks best which were not far removed from Gigantea. Alister has done a lot of the hard work and selection. The fragrance and health from these two could produce a winner? Dunno

I'm hopeing for some early blooms on 'Comtesse de Labarthe' to put some of the early HT's on to and vice versa.

'Lady Mann' is starting to look like it will bloom shortly.

Howdy Bruce;
The high centred bloom I had in ( something different) topic, its pollen will be going on Old Blush this morning. I have 3 Old Blush and 3 Ten Thousand Lights china's comming into bloom at the moment and I want to make the most of it. I reckon crossed with the right modern, the results will be quite good.

Well everything is starting flower, up to my 7th cross at the moment. Tomorrow morning Baronne Henriette De Snoy will be going on Diamond Jubilee. This will give it a double wammy of Tea Noisette.

Hi dave;
I would say they would be pale pink or apricoty pink. You asked in the other post about Champion of the World and what I would cross it with. Its not an overly strong grower, so there are two roses that would sort that out , Queen Elizabeth and Baronne E d Rothschild, both are extremely good for giving vigour and bloom form.
