Climber recommendatios
some suggestions please...
I am wanting to get a pink climber... it needs to be vigorous, blooms to be medium to large in clusters and the foliage needs to be glossy.
I want double blooms... and want a repeater or one that flowers all season.
I'm open to all shades of pink.....

Pierre de Ronsard. I'm a huge fan of this rose. I have one climbing on the shed outside my computer room and love it.

I'm always impressed with what I see and hear of Cl. Pinkie. Profusion, profusion, profusion

Re: Climber recommendatios
Pierre has the added advantage of being easy to train and almost thornless. That's why I got my Pierre - I'm an absolute beginner with climbers so I wanted something beautiful but "easy". Huh, time will tell how successful I am, but I just love the flowers of Pierre. Fast repeat too.

Re: Climber recommendatios
After having a look see on google, I'm tending to lean toward
"nahema". however if it's more of a upright growing climber I will probably go for another.
So peoples thanks... umm please feel free to advise me more.

A good climber is High Society. The colour of the blooms are similar to Good Samaritan.

Re: Climber recommendatios
The nahema plant (large, established) I saw at a nursery was indeed beautiful, with a powerful rich fragrance.I still love my Pierre though. Maree, I know you'll love Fragrant Cloud, it's the most superb thing, its flowers beautiful colour in all its stages and the scent.....don't know why I waited so long. Thank you Betsy!!

Re: Climber recommendatios
Maree, yes Babs is coming along well, I'm very happy with her. She has a couple of strong canes and produced several lovely clusters. Flowers are quite lovely and the fragrance is very strong, rich and complex, like a french perfume. I'm expecting her to fill out a bit next year, she needs to bulk up, bit skinny yet. About a metre high. Health has been good apart from some BS early this season, occasional leaf now.

Re: Climber recommendatios
Fantastic Silky , i'm thinking next year i should have the bed ready for three standard roses , long narrow bed , so bushes will be no good and Babs with her perfume could be one of them ,if she has a strong perfume i can forgive her the BS , thanks

Re: Climber recommendatios
Betsy I don't often cut roses, prefer to enjoy them on the bush, but the flowers stand up straight and petals seem quite robust, without being coarse. Last well on the plant. Next flower I will cut for you and see how it goes in a vase. Will let you know.

Re: Climber recommendatios
Betsy and Maree, just a note about Barbra Streisand's vase life. What a great rose to pick. This is the 5th day of the one flower I picked, fully opened, no sign of droop, strong fragrance still wafting through the house. Fragrance became very strong 4th day to the extent I even thought of moving it into the next room. Having it in a vase really brought home to me the colouration. Mauve washed dark pink as a bud, as it opens strong mauve with reverse much darker. Very beautiful, and certainly worth cutting. As I said before complex heavy perfume, much stronger than Charles De Gaulle , to my nose. I think it would be a good choice for you Betsy. Maree you would love it too.
