Social Media
I have been askd a question about Simon and Facebook, I also will add Twitter as well.
These thoughts are mine and mine alone, I am not a fan of either FB or T. They were placed on here by Simon to introduce more traffic/members to RTA. I am unsure whether it did or not. I do not do statistics, what comes comes. I think from memory Simon withdrew twitter prior to leaving this forum.
To the best of my knowledge facebook was still here, if it is gone or how it went I will ask John(neptune).
If the majority would like these social media on here or RTA linked to them we will have to have a poll or mass email letter to the members for thier imput.
As for Simon I will place another post later explaining what I know, I have to go out for while. If anyone wants to post questions on here about any of these subjects go for it or the other option is to PM or email direct.

Re: Social Media
Thanks Roseman. I think FB might be good just so people could see entire photo 'Albums' on there instead of uploading every individual photo. But also, that may stop people posting them here which would be a shame.

Re: Social Media
I will have to ask the kids what they think. I'm hopeless with it.
I have a facebook page we set up when so we could talk to our boy when he was working out on the gas fields and more recently when our daughter went to Europe but no idea how to get onto rose talk. As for twitter, that's what the birder does oursider our window in the morning.

Re: Social Media
I do love Twitter, but personally I don't think it would reach many rose lovers. It's more just a news feed than anything and would be complicated to keep up with what people are saying and photos etc.

Re: Social Media
It's possible that the FB account was linked to Simon's own personal account - which is also deactivated.
Personally, I wouldn't want my photos on FB. I trust FB as far as I can throw them.
Twitter - I agree with Rosy.

Oh wow. He's deleted everything!
I keep everything on my FB private and no personal information. Just lots of roses

Re: Social Media
As said in the initial post of this thread I am not a fan of either form. We have family account on FB only so we can see what is happening with family in England, the younger ones.
The use of these 2 media forms when Simon placed them on here was to increase traffic as I also said earlier. It increases traffic every so minutely. The ones that joined via that media, mostly do not post. IMO it was more of a "look at the forums/applications" I am on, sort of an ego thing, I call it social climbing. There are other avenues for having photo albums and then placing a link to them, again this is only my opinion.

Re: Social Media
I thought about that, but my account is private and you cannot see my albums even if I post a link. It's not for everyone but I enjoy keeping in contact with overseas family and friends. Might just have to rely on word of mouth and good old Google then

Re: Social Media
You can have a club page on FB that goes to members and you can post photos there that are not linked to your personal page. I do not see a problem if we are only posting photos of roses on there anyway. I am on Fb a little more often as i have teenage children and it is good to keep up with their activities. It is also good for instant PM chatting as well.

Re: Social Media
I liked the Fb feature, because a new post on the forum was listed on my news feed and I would then come here and check in more often.

Re: Social Media
The site doesn't support FB sharing posts at the moment. Also, running our own FB account can be quite a bit of work since it will be like a second site that needs to be administered.

Re: Social Media
John, I wont touch it.
We have a face book account but have no idea how to work it. The only thing we do is look at our local buy and sell on it..

Re: Social Media
Well, anyone can start a Facebook account but it cant be linked to or named Rosetalk... Facebook is opened to anyone and anyone can start an interest group or account, but if it is going to be linked to Rosetalk it needs to be run and administered by the same people that runs the forum and at this stage they just don't have the time or interest.
Also, I think that a page on FB would attract a different demographics then the one that is already here and not necessarily in a good way.
