Spring

Hi folks
 
Spring up here has been a bit strange. Been warm and it has not rained since July sometime. Wisteria has come and virtually gone. Our poppies started flowering a month early and the spring flowerers started flowering mid August but while the number of blooms is down the flush is lasting longer.

Our Geraniums have done well in the current weather. These are one of a few things (like roses and camellias) that we were told we could not grow in Queensland.

Nice photos, Gary.....seems your weather is slightly better than ours.......this month so far we have had more than our monthly average of rain and they say we are on our way to beat the monthly record and the cold is still here........I hope it warms right up at the end of the month and beginning of next month.....we have the Spring State Championships on the 12th October.......

Been an amazing spring here. Pretty close to perfect.
The roses pruned in July are starting to throw up buds... I'm hoping I'll have some blooms on a couple so I can enter the "Australian-bred" class at our local Ag Show.

I too had been told I couldn't grow Hardy Geraniums in Qld but I grow them under my roses to help keep the soil cool. My Roxanne is looking absolutely beautiful & St Ola is lovely as well, Others are starting to bloom & spread their wings. My Wisteria is still lovely as I am a lot cooler than Gary, more Ipswich weather. The Azaleas have been magnificent this year & my Roses are all starting to bloom Jacques Cartier, Mrs BR Cant, Princess of Wales, Autumnalia, Eden (Pierre de Ronsard) Penelope, Belle Poievine, Prosperity, Duchesse de Brabant, Windermere, Fontain-Latour, Borderer, Lady Lillington, to name but a few, I feel so privileged to be able to grow such a beautiful flower, life really is a miracle & I look at my garden everyday because without it, music & a wonderful husband (Graham), my life would be pretty much empty. By the way I have not told you all this before but I am a moon gardener.

LOLOLOLOL!!! You Lot!!!!! Noooo, I meant tell us more about moon gardening please!! I know it's (or think!) about sewing seeds, planting plants on certain days(??).

I would but would it be OK on this topic as we would be going off topic, I guess I could start another topic and call it Rose Growing & Care following Moon Phases or something like that, do you think anyone would be interested....

I am wondering if anyone in Queensland near Ipswich or Brisbane or perhaps Balinbear (seeing as you & I can both grow Hardy Geraniums), grow Clematis & if so which ones or variety.

We have had no luck with clematis. They do not like the humidity.

until I have success with that one.

Just a reminder that as spring hits so do snails and here is Dr Den's remedy (pet friendly).

Keep your old margarine containers, remove the lid and carefully cut a railway tunnel shape each end of the container. Place normal snail bait on the lid towards the middle and then pin the lid to the garden bed. Final step, carefully place the upturned margarine container on the lid and make sure it clips into place. Wait for it to fill with snails!!!! Repeat as necessary. Works wonders and pets can't eat the bait. Hope this makes sense. Let me know if it doesn't and I will make one and send a few pics.

That certainly makes sense to me Dennis, Great Idea. We have had a family of Blue Tongue Lizards under our house for about 25 years and haven't had a snail since. How lucky I feel especially with a cottage style garden & all those flowers. We do have to be careful though as I sometimes find them sunning on the lawn & we have to be careful they don't get under the mower.
