Spring
Spring has sprung, yes I know I am a poet not. At our our airport it got down to minus 3.3 here at home, closer to -5. More of this minus stuff for 3 to 4 days to come, days ok with some westly winds, not as bad as last few days.

Absolutely AMAZING, GLORIOUS and STUNNING official start to Spring down here. Chilly overnight (I think we avoided a frost though) but SUN, SUN and more SUN now.
The sheep are happy the grass is growing.

Re: Spring
Maree, this word keeps popping up, FOOTBALL = soccer, round ball, your game has egg shape one.
Gary most of them are disillusioned
Just back to Spring for a second, minus 3.3, change that to minus 4.2, again at the airport at 6.30am, ours is getting past the minus 5 bit again, bring on Spring.

Spring has sprung.
Photo of one of our "Parkes Yellow Not" reaching for the sky. I took this morning. My Son in the photo for comparision is 1.88m tall.

In a few weeks it should be covered in flowers.

Re: Spring
Our wisteria is flowering a bit early this year.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Before we started to grow roses we had a few azaleas. The lacebug and spinder mites were a pain when you don't spray so we moved most of them them down to the bush near the dam. Despite the bush and long grass, every spring they show us why we had them.

Re: Spring
Thanks
Unfortunately the wisteria flowering does not last all that long. The leaves stay on it all summer though and is nice and shady under the pergola.

Re: Spring
The big drawback of wisteria, iMO. The person who breeds a three-season flowering wisteria will be rich as Croesus. Ditto the person who breeds a super-scented azalea

Re: Spring
You have a beautiful garden Balinbear. Just the place to unwind and enjoy nature's bounty. Hope you get a chance to stop and smell the roses because it looks like a lot of work has gone into it to produce such glorious "rooms".
I would never have thought azaleas could cope with the bush situation!

Re: Spring
The azaleas actually go back into the gums even futher. The problem is they are getting buried by the braken and fishbone fern that somehow got in there. As you can see frm the photo they survive in the long grass.
We have a lot of "Silver-leaved Desmodium" or Velcro Vine in our area. The cows and horses love it but the dogs get covered in the seed and if you have ever seen it you will understand the velcro name. We actually have another bed of azaleas (where they were more or less dumped when we moved them) that was completely covered by the vine. So much so that I thought all the azaleas would be dead. I cleared the vine off it in July and now all the azaleas are flowering away like nothing has happened.
So they are pretty tuff.
