That rose perfume (and the pretty colours) is like a drug ya know... LOL

I will just bring them down a side of lamb that should keep them occupied whilst David is digging and I am filling the ute.

Everything is looking really good since all this rain, I could n't believe the growth since last week and those little milk thistle plants are now about 3ft high, gee those things can grow. Have some serious weeding to do next week before they take all the nutrient.

That's my type of rose Warren, wonder how it would go here on the coast? Reason I ask is Governor Macquarie was listed as very resistant to BS but it wasn't that good for me.

Please don't get me wrong for I enjoy all HT's in Spring and Autumn when most do well. I'm beginning to think gardeners have a fixation on BS but should look for those beautiful HT blooms in the more temperate months.

Bruce you will have to get on the end of the line, others want it to. Not sure where the line starts or ends , Warren won't tell.

I'm still cautious, wish Warren lived on the coast between Sydney and Brisbane. I feel his normally dry western climate doesn't test roses enough for me. I admire most of his seedlings and know he walks tall amoungst the rose pollinators in Australia.

The opening chapter in most rose books mentions, buy roses suitable for your climate.

I'm willing to test them for BS..... :p

Didn't think BS existed out there in inland Victoria.

Bruce we get BS here in Deniliquin, where I work , they have this white rose, have sprayed it twice and now is completely defoliated. We are gradually going to shovell prune and replace the whole lot

We don't get it(BS) in Mudgee, so this the reason to trial it here

We've had a LOT of unusual humidity the last 2 years but we've always had a low level of BS. The 'Bonica' is out in the breeze and still gets defoliated. But you don't notice when it's smothered in flowers... or hips.. so I forgive it. :p

My Bonica today is 50% flowers and 50% hips.
She is a great Rose.

I haven't got around to deadheading mine... so she's 100% hips.

Guess it's just about everywhere. That's good news you get it where you are Warren. The greatest population is on the coastal parts of Australia.

Used to live in a full brick home 100 yards from the beach, when the sea was rough and when the big waves broke the windows would rattle.
Nothing lasted even the house was showing signs of concrete cancer.
The galvanised arch bars rusted very quickly, most cars were rust buckets in a very short time. The gauze (Fly Screens) were dripping sea spray or covered in salt. About the only thing that would grow there without care was Salt Bush. Not a good testing ground for Roses.
Fortunatly most of the coastal homes are within 100klm of this type of environment.
Anything will grow in Mudgee, even grapes.
If I were to retire again and grow roses then Orange would be my choice. A nice 25 acres in the foothills of Mount Canobolas. Great volcanic soil and ideal weather for roses. Oh! I forgot buy nothing as a large proportion of the state has coal seam gas mining leases on it.

Orange is a city I like but it is so, soooo cold in winter. It is also much cheaper than Mudgee.
As for your comment on the gas mining leases, I think it is called fracking. IT SHOULD BE STOPPED
This is my personal opinion.

Fracking is used to break rock and release the gas. In the past some pretty toxic chemicals have been used (mainly in US) but if you can believe the Govt and the miners these are not used in Oz.

I think (from what I have read) the main problem with gas extraction lies in the fact that one of the waste products of the process is water which is usually salty as it comes from the rocks with the gas not the actual water basin. This sort of indicates that maybe some of the green side of the debate is telling the odd porky as they claim that it is removing water that is used for farming and no too many farmers would use salt water.
