WA Autumn Rose Show Championships
Yesterday was a good day for me.....I won the big prize(which required 15 different roses), took out the best of show floral art, and literally missed out by a petal, for the champion rose for the event.....bummer
So overall I won 22 firsts,11 seconds and 7 thirds...... now roll on the National Championships in October....... this was all done with rose bushes between 6months and 18 months old.....can't wait to see what the blooms are like when they are five years old

Re: WA Autumn Rose Show Championships
Well done Neptune, I see you didnt leave much for the rest of the exhibitors. Winning the big one would have put the cherry on the top, but you did well. I was thinking of comming over for the big meet, but its a long way for a few days.

Re: WA Autumn Rose Show Championships
Congratulations there Neptune . That's a stirling effort , especially considering that our very extended summer has been hard on gardens.
My mum used to be a rose judge and I always used to think out of all flowers Roses were one of the trickiest , dressing and staging could be everything , closest thing I know of to showing dogs or horses.
Well Done!
cheers, Rosalie
p.s I wouldn't mind seeing some pics too.

Re: WA Autumn Rose Show Championships
Gosh - what a lot of prizes and what a lot of hard work went in to getting them. You will need a very big frame for them all.
The photo's are wonderful I am so happy to see them.
Maybe you will inspire Cheryl to get back into showing her roses OR others to try it for the first time.
On a personal note are you joining the chat on Saturday ?

Neptune
Great effort.
If it were me I would have used up the whole of the memory card on my camera taking pictures of my winning flowers.
But still you are probably used to seeing them.

Re: WA Autumn Rose Show Championships
That's a grand display Neptune and all the more a feather in thy cap because of the frontline coastal area that thay grow in . It's not usually known for it's rose growing qualities.
Where was the show held ? I keep thinking South Pth Community Center but I thought that was demolished yonks ago.

Actually you are right...it was held in the New Sth Pth Com Ctr and the Nationals are being held at the Guildford Town Hall in October

Re: WA Autumn Rose Show Championships
neptune you have just enough time to give them that little extra.
I love exhibition HT's, though don't like all the fiddling and props to get them just right on the day. Not to mention their unhealthy growth here on the coast. Still think it is worth securing an Igloo as outside the sun and Hybiscus Beetles ruin almost everything, white roses in particular.
The commercial growers using plastic or glass houses are able to turn out thousands of perfect white blooms.
Best of luck
