Keeping it in the Family :)
I'm a proud Dad today Eliza, number one child, did her first pollination back in Summer and today her seeds began to germinate. She chose the parents and had her own ideas and she is excited they are now germinating. The cross she did was 'Papageno' x 'Nahema' and her rationale was that she wanted large DA-style striped flowers with amazing perfume. Even better... they could be climbers So... I'm going to keep adding to this thread as we learn more about these seedlings so Eliza can 'show off'

Re: Keeping it in the Family :)
Well done Simon (Great Dad). I had a great relationship with my two daughters via the Pekin Bantams, each had a colour of their own which did well for them at the shows.
Actually, they would be better judges than most of the all breed judges.
They are both Law Graduates and still go to the Sydney Royal and look over the Pekins. Like you, must be in the blood.

Re: Keeping it in the Family :)
Proud Dad thing again
Eliza's seedlings have started to flower. So far there is one red and white striped one that doesn't look much different, so far, from 'Papageno' with no perfume, just like it's Mum. This one, on the other hand, is showing clear influence of 'Nahema':

She's very happy with this one so far. It has a 'Nahema's perfume too
This is its first flower and petal count can more than double as it matures I don't know where it's going to put all its petals... it's going to end up looking like a pompom. So far it looks like it will be good and fertile too Good strong grower too with better-than-average disease resistance like 'Nahema'... much better than 'Papageno'.
Now number one Son, Aiden, wants to try one so we have 'Lavender Jewel' pollen drying on the bench tonight to use on 'Temple Bells' tomorrow

Re: Keeping it in the Family :)
Well... Eliza is a long way along the path of realising her goal... as mentioned above, Eliza wanted a great big DA-style, fragrant, striped climbing rose... well this is what has just opened:

Subtle dark pink stripes on a pink background.. the petal count will increase as it ages (it will more than double) and this flower is a good 4 inches across and this will continue to grow until it is fully mature too. It has a nice perfume and it is a long vigorous seedling that I think will be a climber. Beginners luck huh!

I'm happy to provide a testing ground up here with this one for you Simon - have room for one more climbing pink DA style rose

Isn't it great when the kids enjoy their parents' interests! Well done Eliza and Aiden! Nice looking seedlings too.
Re: Keeping it in the Family :)
Wow!!! Congrats to Eliza...very nice indeed! I have said it before & I will say it again I LOVE 'NAHEMA'!!! It is great to know it is capable of producing such lovely seedlings.
Jakob recently bought 'Golden Celebration' & I have been instructed to put 'Rodeo Clown' pollen on any blooms that open (he is away atm). He is looking for an "old-fashioned stripie" too...

Welcome back Damo, you have been missed, how about some of the crosses you may have done this year, lets say maybe green or brown crosses,

Re: Keeping it in the Family :)
Well, Eliza's seedling is pretty well grown up, in terms of the flower anyway. The plant is healthy enough but could be more vigorous.

I didn't post this because it isn't a very good photo... it was very windy and hard to get a good focus and the wind was blowing the petals around a lot... you get the idea though

The bud (also a terrible photo) is very fat and quite pretty too:
