What are you buying this year?
I thought I was only going to buy one rose this year.... Funny how some plans change
I'm not getting that many really... got 'Trier', 'Reve d'Or', 'Sweet Magic', 'William III', and 'Edith Holden' on their way... just bought 'Knockout' too... will be planting it tomorrow somewhere where I can clearly see whether it is all it's cracked up to be

Reve d Or is one of my favourite. It will be interesting to see how it goes int he colder climate.
I had Trier (years ago but did nothing in our weather though I was a bit inexperieced and the sot that I had it was not the best. But in saying that I have a General Schablikine that I shifted to the same spot a couple of years ago and it has grown huge without any real attention.
Trier is creamy yellow and if I remember correctly was used extensivly by Rev Pemberton in his Hybrd Musk roses. Do I anticipate anything here?

Re: What are you buying this year?
Sorry I forgot to answer the question (bet you have heard that before).
We are not getting a lot. Just trying to get the odd tea that we don't have.
Mrs Folly Hobbs, Triumph de Luxemburg, Souvenir de Therese Lovet, Baxter Beauty, Tipsy Imperial Concubine plus a couple of early Hybrd Teas the names of which I can't remember.
We also have a lot of cuttings that we did to enable a bit of mass planting of various varieties.
We are hoping to do a road trip later in the year and getting down to SA and Victoria and see what we may pick up on the raod.

Re: What are you buying this year?
Yep... 'Trier' is on the list because it is an excellent breeder. It's not Pembertons crosses that are the inspiration though. It's Lens' roses! He did a whole lot of crosses between 'Trier' and 'Mutabilis' and they are just beautiful. So that's what I want to try. If it worked well with 'Mutabilis' maybe it will work well with other roses that do well in Australia too, like 'M. Tillier'. Guess we'll see over the next few years
These are my two favourite Lens 'Trier' x 'Mutabilis' roses 9esp. 'Apricot Bells':
1. 'Plaisanterie': [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
and
2. 'Apricot Bells': [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Well this will be the first year in many I have not placed an order I have to many at the moment and the sickly ones will be removed s I prune them all and some of the potted roses will go in their place and them I may be tempted

I am hopefully going to buy St.Patrick syn. Limelight; and perhaps one of the whites. I would like Woburn Abbey too and Lanvin. The problem is I will run out of room

Re: What are you buying this year?
Hi,
Limelight is a nice rose. I'm not sure I'd bother with Tipsy Imperial Concubine. It's very rare that I get a fully opened rose from her. Mostly they ball and rot on the bush. When she does open a flower they are lovely but not sure she's worth persevering with here.

Couldn't be much of a rose if a bulldozer knocks it over.

Ozeboy
Still trying to think of something to say in reply. It was accidental am I know Tipsey had her head turned and facing the other way so I suppose that could explain it.
Actually I have been reminded that it was an excavator not a bulldozer and I can't remember what was going on that it got that cloose to the garden and it may have bee a branch from a tree that was bing removed (seems to be my second hobby ie removing bloody trees that should not have been planted).
It was not a large bush and I don't think I noticed for a little while and could not save it.
