Each season it never fails to happen. In the same position in my garden bed 3 plants in this place nether seem to grow well or really thrive. I've tried replacing the bushes with others, thinking it may be that particular rose, I use Neptunes box method when transplanting, I've even dug out all the soil and replaced it. the PH levels are pretty much the same as the rest of the bed, every other plant does well, but this 2 1/2 - 3 metres of bed is a mystery to me.

Thanks John, they dont get the morning sun until late in the morning, however its the same for the others in the last photo. The ones in the second photo hardly get any sun at all.

I suppose the next question will be....
do all plants get equal water,
do all plants get equal food and the same type....
are all plants on fortuania stock or are those three different

It does get pretty breezy along there. The only ones that don't get a lot of breeze are the ones in the second photo, there situated with a brick wall on one side with only about a metre to the plants and then the fence

when you use the box method, did you replace with clean fresh soil in the box and if so , did the roses grow really well and for how long before the bush went backwards?

Yes I paid particular attention to the fresh medium to go in the boxes. They have just struggled from the outset. The last 3 I replaced I put in pots, it took a while however they are all going great guns now

I'm starting to think your problem is in the soil again.......did you coat or seal the limestone wall behind it when you empty the bed out.....also is that the limestone wall that has a drop to the pavement on the other side?

Yes on both counts. I'm thinking of taking them out pot them and pave the section and put the pots there. Just a thought

try this...... prune them back.........spade/cut the roots at the drip line......... feed with seasol for a week...lift plants out and shake off excess soil.....repot in 52 litre black plastic pots(cheap from Bunnings) with clean soil or potting coir/combination of both....dig hole in garden and put the pots into the soil at same depth as the other roses......if this doesn't work it could be the roses....

you can use all coir potting mix in the pot and also great for water retention......great way to isolate a soil problem........

are you going on the weekend to the rose show....?

Unfortunately no John, we are dealing with the sudden loss of our new born baby grand daughter this week. There's a lot to do and trying to keep things together.
