Anyone come across VAM? Empty Anyone come across VAM?

I just bought some of this to try, thinking it might be useful for a new bed I'm developing. A new approach apparently, using a soil fungus to aid plant nutrition, but maybe its just sales talk? Pretty pricy but I got 30% off so I'll give it a try.
Anyone know anything about it?
Here is some info from the nursery:
"VAM contains a soil fungus which is a vital part of the nutrient cycle between the soil and plants. It enhances the ability of plants to access nutrients from the soil, increasing health and vigour and improving production. VAM helps to quickly build up beneficial fungi populations and most valuable when added to new soils and potting mixes or soils that have been without plants for a period of time. "

Silky, how did you get a "Hefty Discount" ?

John, I assume there are all sorts of companies now selling the same product ? As you have used this sort of stuff, have seen any results yet.

Not really, Dave....I think it might be that I have used many things to beef up the soil....what I should have done is used a single bed with VAM and compare it to the rest.....

Originally I thought I'd just spread it around the area I'm trying to enrich. However, on further reading I've learned that the fungi actually dies if there are no roots that they need to do their work. That probably explains why it states on the packet to apply when planting. 2 tablespoons per plant scratched into the soil around root zone then water in. So I'll use when I actually plant.
Re my discount, I'm a member of this nursery's garden club so I get some discounts. This one was too good to pass up. 30% off. Might just be a great waste of time though! Apparently this fungi is used more extensively in agriculture. Sounds feasible, but what would I know?

I have read about such fungi in USA. It sounds very interesting particularly for exhibitors.
