I'm interested to know if Soul Mate has lived up to the hype. I'm sure some of you grow it so would be interested to hear how you are finding it. Still would like to have it, especially with its licorice scent and pale yellow.

Also has anyone got Shooting Star, another pale yellow that I saw last year at Silkies? Looked nice and recommended by Diana Sargeant.

Silky, mine is now around two years with us. It will be in my mind a small bush. The colour is not pale yellow, but soft, butterish I guess, leaning to Freesia and Thee Golden Child, hope this helps.
Yes there is a hint of licorice about it's fragrance.

Thank you roseman, that's good to know. Is it highly fragrant would you say, or just so so?

Silky, in all honesty, I do not go and check if they have fragrance that often, if it grows I am happy. I do not fuss over them, I have around 30 still to prune and they might not get pruned, I am going to be called "The Lazy Rosarian" from now on, if it gets done it gets done, nothing pristine here.

Silky,
I have Soul Mate, it is a vigorous grower, foliage is mid green semi gloss/gloss. Blooms are prolific, buttercup yellow, aging through to a pale cream with pinking on the edges. Grows to around 80cm-110cm. Imo, I would add it to your collection, you wont be disappointed.

Thank you Paul, sounds like a likely candidate then. I want something about that size in the spot I have in mind, in front of some yellow roses and Elina behind them. Can you comment on its perfume too please, I'm hoping for a knockout perfume if possible.

The fragrance may be an issue, it is slight, to my nose, but having said that, scent is a subjective issue because all our dna is different. For me, SM, stands out even with the lack of scent.

Thank you boys. Looks like SM is a winner then.
I'd love to have a garden where different fragrances stand out and stop you in your tracks - licorice, myrrh, damask, citrus etc from roses. I've already got gardenias, daphne, lilac, ginger lily, freesias, lavenders and this past winter brown boronia's perfume was intoxicating. I was thrilled because this has been the first time I've managed to keep boronia growing. Having said that it'll probably keel over now! Still so worth it. Fragrance just adds another dimension to the garden I reckon.

What a shame Dan, it's a fragrance like no other and really permeates the air. Delicious!
