Hi,
what's the best way to prune the roses of the type in the topic heading? They have so many stems each year. Do people cut them out and just leave a few, or do they shorten all of them, or do they just let them grow?

Hi Barbara, long time no see. As for your questions, are they cutting grown or budded

Elmshorn, as it does get large, I would bring it back to a manageable height, maybe 3ft, take out any useless canes.
Carabella, because of it's fragrance and where it might be planted/size, I would only remove unwanted any old canes(unsightly) and twiggy growth if it has
any.
Cousin Essie, again because of it fragrance I would only tidy it up.

Hope this helps,
Regards David.

Thanks David. I'm still around. I check back in every so often. I still have maybe 200 or so roses - I noticed while pruning that the pesky possums are back and I need a few more roses. I lost a few because it's been very wet here. I hope all is well with you and yours.
