How to encourage buds to open for Christmas
I've got a good flush of Firefighters coming on - big fat buds, and they've almost all coloured up, with a festive red peeking through.. Are there any tricks to push the buds to open by Christmas for a Chrsitmas lunch bouqet?

Re: How to encourage buds to open for Christmas
Hot days and water, I would say, but hot days will bring forth a bud early. Water might slow it up.

The second I can do, thnaks
EDIT: Oh, right, so water might slow down the process. I'll let the two plants go without for the next three days, then

Re: How to encourage buds to open for Christmas
there are two ways to have blooms for a certain date.....
a light prune 42 days before the date required
two weeks before date....stop the water........then one week before date push water every day....

Re: How to encourage buds to open for Christmas
So having skipped the first two steps, neptune, should I now water every day (which I do anyway), or withold? Or is it all too late, really?
I'm seeing now that I asked this question far too late in the day to act on advice.

Re: How to encourage buds to open for Christmas
pushed the water now while the weather is hot towards xmas day then go back to normal watering after xmas......
now if you are eager and we are talking about one or two plants you want for xmas, then water(but not over water) early in the morning, then again about 2-3 pm another water. Just do this for the next two days

Neptune, spoken like a true rose exhibitor. Having shown poultry for years makes me so pleased I don't have to go through all the preparation needed to bench a really outstanding exhibit.

Re: How to encourage buds to open for Christmas
No complaints from me.On the contrary I am grateful for neptune's advice at this 11th hour stage, and thank him for such expert input. Next year, I'll get with the full program.
For now, the neptune regimen as suggested is my best bet, and I thank you for it, Mr Nep. If it works, that's great, if it's all too late, I am ready for 2013

And I am delighted to be so led ;-) If everything blooms, then of course I will point and stare and bow down before neptune. If nuthin' blooms, we accept the failure as our own. (Or mutter under our breath about him).
