Balinbear , come and live in Melbourne or Geelong and you'll find out , Betsy what is a Double Bay decorator lol , i'm just bunging in FC Betsy where there is a available spot next year , too bad if it doesn't match with the surrounding decor , i've decided after endless days trying to figure out where it would look pretty !!! Roseman , that is a nice colour .....

Re: Roses that stand up to the sun
No thanks. Too bloody hot down there and too bloody cold and too bloody wet and too bloody windy and all in the one day!
I was in Melbourne a few (well more than a few) years ago playing in the national masters volleyball championships over the Easter weekend.
Arrived Thursday and it was really hot and dry with people complaining about the lack of rain. Friday morning hot and still, by lunchtime it was freezing cold and pouring rain with a wind so strong it nearly blew you over. Next day it was back to bloody hot again. Talk about 4 seasons in one day.

And at the edge of the Lower Hunter, it hit 41.2 at 2pm. We expect 43+ tomorrow.
Right now it's positively glacial here, at 38.

I thought the coast would be cooler, are you sure the vineyards are not changing the temps

Re: Roses that stand up to the sun
Yes, I blame the vineyards. Let us drink more wine, and eradicate those pesky climate-changing grapes.

Re: Roses that stand up to the sun
Dave, I felt like a rottiserie chicken yesterday at work, damm shocking.
Anyway this little devil faired well.
A gemini cross which germinated this year only had minor scorching with the foliage looking good as well .

Bruce this baby is tougher than a bag of rusty nails, I think will develop into something nice this time next year.

Re: Roses that stand up to the sun
Here are a couple of pics of the Gemini baby, its amazing what you can do when you get challenged, some one wondered if I could breed a high centred HT.

Re: Roses that stand up to the sun
I have an unreleased red rose bred by George Thomson that stands up to even the hottest of days which is quite unusual for a red rose.

Re: Roses that stand up to the sun
Maree it has a reasonable perfume, as the plant matures, the blooms are getting bigger and with more petals. The other day I pulled one apart and it had 100 petals.

What would you say are the major differences between Gemini and the Gemini baby, Ozroz?

Re: Roses that stand up to the sun
Gemini baby has a softer pink to the edges of the petals, it produces up to three times more petals and the foliage is dark green with the leaf shape more rounded.

Re: Roses that stand up to the sun

Re: Roses that stand up to the sun
Maree a lot of roses only get sunburn if the foliage has dropped due to fungus defoliation. the canes are exposed to the strong sunlight and inturn the bark burns from the residual heat. Also if you have n't watered enough they will also defoliate or the leaf will fold trying to preserve its moisture, this lets more heat into the centre of the shrub resulting in sunburn.
