A young Daybreaker plant in flush

This is the bloomfest Swanes Daybreaker acquired yesterday. Pic doesn't do justice to the luminosity of the petals. Bit of bs on a leaf near bottom right, but clean everywhere else so far, and touch wood.

I hadn't thought of Peace, silky, but you're quite right! I think that DB is possibly more flamboyant, more I-Go-to-Rio intense.My phone camera tends to bleach things out. Here's one of the opening buds

So far, I've detected only a delicate sweet scent, but it's very pleasant and if those oils can ramp up a bit, the thing might actually throw out a decent if modest perfume, from all those blooms acting in concert.

Sally, I took a pic of a mediocre bud - saw a far better one this morning. But I don't intend to bore everyone to death with this thing - well, maybe just to the point of sending y'all into a non-lethal coma.

This is the first rose I've ever had that I don't intend to use as a cutting vase battery hen, so I am inordinately scatty about it. It had better be a good producer as a specimen creature as HMF leads me to think.

No one here on RTA seems to have bothered with it, and it's gone down the rose social scale in the USA and Europe from A-List award winner to hard-to-find variety. Then again, Valencia is to be found at Woolies (serious candidate for the best all-round HT ever bred), and Jardins de Bagatelle has fallen off the perch, too. And so on and so on.

Lol Betsy, I am pretty hard to put into a coma, don't worry. I remember when I first found Gardenweb about 10 years ago Jardins de Bagatelle was all the rage. They were also mad about Rouge Royale. I hardly ever cut roses so I am very interested to know how it performs. Mind you I usually get OGRs or Austins. I've been thinking I should try to find some healthier floribundas, so i'd be keen to hear an update. Also i'm a sucker for that colour.
