Spider Mites!
I have managed to have a black spot free garden for awhile, now I have powdery mildew on acouple and spider mites on others. If it's not one thing it's another. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the pesky varmints would be welcome.

Re: Spider Mites!
For the spider mites, Happy, Mr/Mrs Google, "control of Spider mites on roses and see what comes up. From that info you see the use of sulphur.
I will get more info tonight as I am on lunch

Re: Spider Mites!
Hi Happy Roses, essential oils mixed with water can work : lemon, eucalyptus, pennyroyal, peppermint, and rosemary. I have read Eucalyptus oil just eradicated all my aphids so I am pretty pleased with that one right now.

Re: Spider Mites!
I tried white oil, because it says on the can that it kills spider mites and end up killing 3 plants with another two not recoving from it........I'm not sure why this happened , but my own theory is that the oil blocked the pores of the leaves and canes and hence sufficating them....

Re: Spider Mites!
It is possible that it wasn't watered down enough, and it burns the plants. That's why I hate using it.

Re: Spider Mites!
Yikes. Maybe it was too hot? But I am assuming you know not to spray when it's hot. I have never seen it in a can.

Re: Spider Mites!
The one thing I did learn and also with research is that you spray under the leaves and all joints along the cane. Thats where they mainly live....

Re: Spider Mites!
Maybe try late afternoon? That's what my Grandma always tells me. Otherwise the oil has all day to heat up.

Here is a commercial label for Sulphur, if you look at it, notice the amount of mites it is used on.
Any decent chemist/pharmacist will carry it, only small amounts are required. We used it years ago on "Charlotte" our pet pig for what would be referred to as dermatitis, cleared it up pronto. I use it on a customers 'Iceberg' roses every year
