Planter Box
Hi all,
Someone mentioned that their garden is 1/2 meter wide. I am wondering how wide do roots get and how deep. I am thinking of creating a raised garden like a planter box type, and would 1/2 meter be wide enough to accomodate hybrid teas. This would be an ideal width if I could get away with it. But unsure how high I would have to go to as well..

Is your planter box going to be in the open ?. How high would you like it to be?. How long?. What would it be built out of ?. What is below it?. Will it have it's own water or is it to be watered by hand ?.
The width is fine, which direction wil it face?. This little bit will keep you going for a while . Happy.

Oooh lots too think about. Not sure if I definitly will go ahead or not, but thought it may look nice. It will be in the open and probably around 2-3feet high not sure of the materials yet. Thanks

Re: Planter Box
Well Happy roses... After the winter pruning I too raised and widened my bed which tracks along a retaining wall. Our local roses nursery advised that a bed that is 1/2 metre wide and a 1/2 metre wide is enough for roses. So my bed is now about 200-300mm above ground level. I can tell you that when I dug all my roses up the thing that I noticed, is that not all the roses had the same root system. What I'm trying to say is that some roots were more extensive than others, some tended to spread right out, even incroaching on the roses next to them, and they are planted about metre apart. Some roses tended to send there roots deeper than others, hope this helps
