'Rubens' / "Octavus Weld" ??
Bearing in mind the weather has turned a little milder. Cool at nights and not over 30c at the moment. The first few flowers - when it was hot weather - didn't have as much pink in them.

Looks more like "Octavus Weld" than Rubens but I want to check those thorns before I'd be certain.
Our OV is also nearly white in hot weather.

Wendy, what a great looking flower in the third shot, whether it be OW or Rubens I guess it goes onto the wish/order list

It looks very much like the OW photo in the Tea book (pg 162). Rubens doesn't seem to get the quilled cactus dahlia look about it.
Re: 'Rubens' / "Octavus Weld" ??
I think I need to buy this Tea book.... !
The petals do get a bit of a point on them. Similar to DA's 'Grace'.
PS. David - so are you adding it to the list? I can send you a few small bits in winter... LOL

OW is very variable- sometimes cream, sometimes pink: and the quilling comes and goes. The Tealadies say that Teas are very responsive to weather changes, sometimes doubling (or more) their petal count. Some proliferate at times - Mlle Franziska Kruger does it a lot. (Ie tries to produce a new bud in the middle of a flower).

(Off topic; sorry) AutumnDamask, are you using wool as a mulch?!

Yup. Usually any of my carpet wool* that gets overlength. Or the "enriched" stuff. Both grades are unsaleable in the normal arenas.... Worms love it. Originally I started using as a summer mulch because I thought it may be less combustible...Meryl wrote:(Off topic; sorry) AutumnDamask, are you using wool as a mulch?!
*not all wools are created equal when it comes to mulch, In My Experience
