Too Many Visitors ? Empty Too Many Visitors ?

Post by OzRose 13th December 2011, 00:31

I was just doing something on HMF and as I clicked to move between pages , I get a blank white page with

" Our website has too many visitors at the moment ; please try again a little later.
We apologise for this inconvenience. "

I've never experienced this before , has anyone else ? It's made me feel a little miffed [blame it on the full moon or middle age or what ever >8@ ] I thought I'd forked out my dough to become a member or subscriber or what ever they call it which is surelye different to a 'visitor'.

I know , I'm a grumpy old bag. Twisted Evil

Rosalie/ Simon, I guess you both mean using back or forward buttons scratch . The reason I think you 2 are having this problem is your time of use. Could this coincide with the American peak use time, only a thought Hmmmm

David, this is almost certainly the issue. It doesn't have anything to do with the forward or back buttons.. it happens on any link. When the bandwidth limit has been reached it gives the default, too many visitors message. It never lasts very long though... a sign of how popular HMF is! It's a good sign Smile It's also a sign that more people should join up and pay the small yearly fee to help support it so they can add improvements like bandwidth and server upgrades Thumbsup

I am a fully paid member and have not had this problem. Again IMO I think it is to do with what time we here in Australia go on.

It IS the problem. I am fully paid up and have the problem often because I don't get to look at it until quite late at night.

HMF is a fantastic site, run by Volunteers, I am led to believe. So one option would be make it user pays, you can just imagine the improvements they could make and would like to.

The original idea was for it to be a free site (and independent of any advertising). You wouldn't believe how much flak they got for requesting financial assistance from people who use the site. I am sure they wouldn't want to go "user pays".

I was one of the people who dished the flak... so I can believe it. I don't mind it being a paid service... I just didn't like how it was done. One minute it was free and without notice it all changed. I would have liked some notification. If I changed this place to user-pay (which would be stupid...), I would send out a message to everyone informing them of it well ahead of time.

I think there was advance notification, in Site Changes, which I and presumably most people don't read.
