Rita or Larry, would you think they would sell or give some of the budwood away if I approached the Council(parks & gardens Dept).

Rita thanks for that link to the roses at the Rumsey gardens. I'm in regular contact with David Rumsey, son of Roy and Heather. He lives in Basel, Switzerland, so I sent him the link (without your permission, sorry!). He was delighted with all your photos. He's coming to Oz in November so I'll try and arrange a get together for him at the park if anyone is interested. He loves roses, but doesn't have time to grow then (he's a professional organist and consultant). I've got a note about him in the next HRIA Journal.

David, how wonderful that you have connected with David (Rumsey) through your love of music! Isn't it wonderful how classical music and roses are intertwined in many ways. I have often wanted to sit in the Rose Garden at the park listening to the SSO live when they are out here, but alas they set up some 70metres away and always perform at night under the stars. Still we are blessed to have the SSO come out to the Park every now and again and give a free performance!

I am so glad that he enjoyed seeing photos of the wonderful roses his parents grew and are now growing in a garden honoring their life's work!

A get together sounds fantastic! I am sure many will want to come. Shall we start planning it then??

For those interested, there is plenty of parking in Parramatta Park, there is also a good cafe and certainly plenty of room for picnic lunches. The park is almost in the heart of Parramatta and about 1km from the railway station. I am not sure if the free metro bus stops at the park, but can ask for those who are interested in travelling by train.

Can those interested please indicate their interest asap.

That sounds great, Rita. I'm not sure of David R's dates in November yet but will let you know. I'm sure he would be honoured and delighted.

Well where did Rita her potted rose from might be a good start. Laughing

Must say that Rita's pic looks more like the rose that my mum had back in the 70's under the same name and the perfume was divine.

cheers. Rosalie
