RABBITS....AHHHHH!!!!
I know whats bugging my roses....Rabbits!!!
At first, I used to think "oh, what a nice bunny rabbit". That was when all she(or he) did was eat and dig at weeds. Go for your life, I thought. Where can I get 2 more, I thought. Well that seemed to have happened naturally (I bit of sarcasm there), as I now have a couple of bunnies jumping around the front of the property in the morning as I drive off to work, that have taken a liking to my "Ingrid Bergman" standards. They are scratching at the stem and digging down around the base (maybe going for the roots??). I believe they live 2 doors further down, as going for a walk recently, I notice there Front was quite overgrown (bless them), with lost of Rabbits jumping around. I think they are cutting across the neighbours and having some time on my block before going home.
Short of getting a gun, has anyone else had some methods that where successfull?? I have read somewhere that B@B deters them...??

Re: RABBITS....AHHHHH!!!!
Hi Shamous,
I await replies with bated breath. Rabbits are rotten sods. They're exploding in numbers around here. I'm seriously thinking of buying another dog - a Jack Russell Terrier, just to chase the bunnies off. My shelties think they're cute and just watch them with their tails wagging gently.

They love Multiflora also, planted some last January 2009 and am going to bud these this month what's left of November. They did such a job on these will find it hard to find a spot to fit a bud.

Here's my current deterant....introducing TORI
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Doesn't get quite the result you would think. I can't have her unsupervised out the Front of the property as it isn't fenced. In the back she loves to chase them away (as a game), but she does more damage in the game of chasey, than the Rabbits do in their daily degaustation menu - flying mulch and stones everywhere, snapping stems of the Roses as she runs passed - no eticate what so over.
Still looking for a plan B

Re: RABBITS....AHHHHH!!!!
Hi Shamous,
I know there are various poisons we could use but they're not an option here because of the dogs, and I'd think the birds would be attracted to them too.
I've tried altering a possum trap slightly but I don't really think a trap is the way to go. There are too many of them now.
I don't really want another dog - we have six already - and what if the new one wasn't interested?

Re: RABBITS....AHHHHH!!!!
Hi Barbara B
Yeh, I agree, that's my biggest concern also. Whilst I may be able to supervise Tori's access to various parts of the property, using poison is still a potential risk to her. She also has a Kelpie friend from a couple of farms up the road that sneaks over from time to time to play with Tori, that I would have no controll over. I also get alot of ducks flying in at least once a week to the Front where they spend a good 3-4hours foriging, not to mention the many different species of birds I have visiting who are very nice to me (they are my natural alarm clock in the morning). So it seems I'm in the same boat as yourself. I'll see if any other members of RT have any suggestions once they read the thread, but I may give the Dept of enviroment and recources a call and see if they have some suggestions or check what is actually legal.....

That's the way it ought to be. I fully approve of worrying the kids - it's called "Payback".

Re: RABBITS....AHHHHH!!!!
Well this morning, one of the checky little things was up on its hind legs, bald as brass, eating the central leader off one of my newly planted conifers.
If anyone sees a crazy man with a butterfly net running around his front garden whilst yelling abuse......um, that will be me......
