Re: Mistydownes end of Season Sale
They had a bad growing season so numbers and varieties were reduced. This is also reflected in the plants available in the sale and I don't think that there are too many left.
The ones I ordered last night only had one or two available.

Re: Mistydownes end of Season Sale
As I have done for the last few years, I ordered from Mistydowns sale stock and there was still a good range available. Hard to stop at 10 or 11 though. Such a long time until next season.

On a side note - how are you finding Snowflake (tea) rosebud? I seem to recall you got that one last year for a mixed hedge you were planning...?

Re: Mistydownes end of Season Sale
Great memory, muscovy!! Snowflake (syn. Marie Lambert) is a gem and has done well in a less than ideal situation (in competition with a black wattle that we are slowly killing off - a relatively short-lived tree but a greedy water guzzler!). The small white flowers are gorgeous with a soft, sweet fragrance. I would happily recommend her!!

Re: Mistydownes end of Season Sale
Our Snowflake has more or less up and died. It is still alive but not looking too good. We managed to get one (I think they have only had one) at the sale.
We also got Almerta Pink Tea (we have one of these and it is going great but we have had no luck growing it from a cutting so decided to purchase another) , Hermosa (to replace one that died after being run over by a car (don't ask)) and Celine Forestier (to replace the one we have that has never grown (I think it is one some seriously bad rootstock).

Thanks rosebud and Gary I really like the look of Snowflake.

PS. I have black wattle down here too, in my strip of 'no mans land'. I know everyone says it's a short lived tree, so why won't it die already??!!

if you don't mind me asking ... Has anybody tried to "air-root" the roses? What is the success rate whit this sort of rose propagation?
...I need to propagate Harry Edland and Monica Bellucci fast by the beginning of November which is the bare root time for us.....someone wants to buy my only HE and MB..good opportunity to feed my adiction of buying new roses and not spend for replacement...

I haven't tried air rooting. We have grown plants by conventional layering though.
It looks like an interesting way of propagation and may give it a go.

Re: Mistydownes end of Season Sale
Alya, is that where you cut back to the cambium layer on a still-attached cane, then wrap sphagnum moss around it, then wrap it up in plastic wrap?
I have seen that done with camellias very successfully, but I have never seen it with roses.
But if Gary has had success with traditional layering I suspect it will work well. Let us know!
